I’m moving!
Or technically, I’ve moved!
No, not out of Texas (although that sounds like an excellent idea as summer approaches.)
I’ve moved to a new blog location at SusanneKerns.com.
Head on over and check out the new place!

When you ask kids about the heroes they admire, some may answer with a list of animated Super Heroes like Spiderman and Batman, but more than likely, you’ll hear a lot of responses about the every day heroes in their lives.
For my son, the heroes are firemen with their giant, shiny, red trucks. He used to watch Fireman Sam non-stop and would stop and stare at attention any time a firetruck drove by.

Pen Pals – The Best Friend that Money Can Buy
They say that money can’t buy friends. Fortunately that’s not true: In 1984, I bought one of my best friends for $.50.

Pro-life and pro-choice are two groups which typically do not intersect in the minds of many people. As a venn diagram, the two circles probably don’t overlap, or even touch. According to many people, they can’t even be on the same piece of paper.
For the record, I am pro-choice, however suffering through multiple miscarriages when trying to conceive my second child, was definitely not my choice. In fact, with each of these three, brief pregnancies, I was as pro-life as you can get. I was wishing and praying for life so much that it consumed my every thought as I obsessively charted basal temperature calendars and monitored home pregnancy tests as they gradually faded from ‘bold plus sign’ to a faded dash that looked like an etch-a-sketch which was half-shaken clean.
This week I had the pleasure of visiting the Dallas Ft. Worth Auto Show with the She Buys Cars group. I was surrounded by smart and experienced auto-enthusiasts who knew things about “suspensions” and “horsepowers.” I, on the other hand, was there to represent the “clueless, yet curious” car buyer – which probably means that I was representing many of you. (Read all the way to the end to learn about my newest car-crush! OMGGGGG!)
Note: If you’re looking for a car-expert type review of the Dallas Ft. Worth Auto show (March 22-26, 2017,) you’re in the wrong place. BUT, if you’re (like me) and an auto-show newbie who likes to press dashboard buttons, rub leather and load up on trade show swag, this post is for you!

I love holiday lights.
You can tell by the vast array of holiday inflatables in our front yard, that we take exterior illumination pretty seriously around here. People come from miles around to take family photos in front of our holiday display, (okay, that only happened once, but it was awesome.)
This year I went two writing conferences: The Erma Bombeck Writer’s Conference and Blog U. The number one topic of conversation among bloggers at both conferences was about how long it has been since any of us had written anything. Writing-withdrawl is also a main topic in our secret blogger Facebook groups and even with friends in my local writing group.
We’re all overflowing with ideas and love to write, but unfortunately, in blogger-land, writing is not enough.
I did this chart last year for Blog U, and although it’s meant to be a joke, it’s sadly quite accurate.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I really think it’s my mom who deserves to be celebrated on my birthday since she’s the one that did all the work. That being said, I’ve been know to try to talk my family, (my husband in particular,) into letting me extend the celebration of my birthday, (primarily in the form of donuts and restaurant breakfasts,) into the week before, and after November 6th.

I am setting forth on a new adventure and working on putting together a book proposal. Technically this would be my first solo book, although I have been honored to be part of several humor and parenting anthologies.
When putting together my portfolio for prospective agents, I will be highlighting several of my published pieces. But really, I think all anyone needs to see is this unpublished treasure that my mom recently discovered while cleaning out her garage. Don’t be surprised if you someday see this 1980 classic, “The Dogs that Never Stoped Loveing,” in the Smithsonian….(or back in the bottom of a box in the attic.)

A few of my friends from various walks of life have shared a post on Facebook called, “Woman Not Offended by Trump.”
Since I like and respect many of the women who shared it, I decided to give it a read and open myself up to another point of view.
I came away discouraged and saddened that there are women who just “don’t get” how offensive Donald Trump’s behavior and statements are – I’m sure it’s very similar with how frustrated they are that I “don’t get” how they think it’s not a big deal.
In an effort to share how I have formed my opinions about Trump’s behavior, I have done a counter-point take on the “Woman Not Offended by Trump,” post, appropriately named, “Woman Totally Offended by Trump.”
