When you ask kids about the heroes they admire, some may answer with a list of animated Super Heroes like Spiderman and Batman, but more than likely, you’ll hear a lot of responses about the every day heroes in their lives.
For my son, the heroes are firemen with their giant, shiny, red trucks. He used to watch Fireman Sam non-stop and would stop and stare at attention any time a firetruck drove by.
For my daughter, thanks to Bob the Builder, she loved any type of construction equipment. When she was 2 years old we once survived a 9 hour road trip thanks to a lot of road construction which allowed her to count all the ‘Scoops’ along the way.
As a child (and even for us adults) the only thing cooler than seeing these heroes on the street is getting to sit in their seats (literally) and see behind the scenes of their cool jobs.
And Saturday May 7th, you can do just that at the Touch-A-Truck Event at Camp Mabry in Austin, TX from 10am -3pm.
Touch-A-Truck is a one of a kind event where kids get to touch, sit in and learn about the trucks that their heroes use every day to serve their communities.
In addition to the vehicles, there will also be live music, food trucks and a Kid Zone where they can enjoy a petting zoo, face painting, barrel-train rides and much more.
And while you’re learning about the vehicles that serve our communities, you’ll be helping raise funds to help our community through the Austin Children’s Shelter.

Hi, I’m Susanne. I used to be a Senior Account Director at an advertising agency working for two of the top brands in the world. Ten years ago, I traded in my corporate life for a life as a stay at home mom, raising two of the best kids in the world. I started my blog, The Dusty Parachute as a way to dust off my online advertising skills and begin my job search. Instead, I now use it as a way to spend lots of time on the computer so my kids think that mommy has a job.
I spend an unhealthy amount of time on social media and would love to see you there. Find me at Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
You can find my stories in Scary Mommy, BonBon Break and Redbook and also in the books, I Just Want to Be Perfect, It’s Really 10 Months, Special Delivery and Martinis & Motherhood – Tales of Wonder Woe & WTF?!

We’ve never been, so we can’t wait to check them all out. We do enjoy watching the garbage trucks and the UPS trucks from our window. (Though, if they have an ice cream truck mom and dad will be in heaven.)
Ohhhhh…I hadn’t even though of an ice cream truck – that has my vote!
My kids can’t wait to see the fire trucks!!
Me too! I also wanted to confirm that you entered to win through the Rafflecopter. I saw your comment here but the number of entries there didn’t increase so I just want to make sure you’re entered. Thanks so much!
Our son is excited to see the UPS truck again!
Our son is excited to the UPS truck again!
It’s our first time this year so I’m excited about EVERYTHING!
Big trucks are the coolest – especially the fire engines!
The fire engines are my son’s favorite too! (The fire men aren’t bad either…) 😉
My boys love the construction and garbage trucks!
I’ve gotta admit, I still think garbage trucks are pretty cool. 😉
