Why Bloggers Don't Write - The Dusty Parachute

    Why Bloggers Don’t Write

This year I went two writing conferences: The Erma Bombeck Writer’s Conference and Blog U. The number one topic of conversation among bloggers at both conferences was about how long it has been since any of us had written anything. Writing-withdrawl is also a main topic in our secret blogger Facebook groups and even with friends in my local writing group.

We’re all overflowing with ideas and love to write, but unfortunately, in blogger-land, writing is not enough.

I did this chart last year for Blog U, and although it’s meant to be a joke, it’s sadly quite accurate.

My Perfect Birthday Present - The Dusty Parachute

My PERFECT Birthday Present is for YOU

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I really think it’s my mom who deserves to be celebrated on my birthday since she’s the one that did all the work.  That being said, I’ve been know to try to talk my family, (my husband in particular,) into letting me extend the celebration of my birthday, (primarily in the form of donuts and restaurant breakfasts,) into the week before, and after November 6th.

My First NaNoWriMo Novel - The Dusty Parachute

A Peek at My First NaNoWriMo Doggy Style Love Story

It’s November 1st, which for many of us writers means one thing: NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month.)  Last year I made it to about Day #5 of NaNoWriMo before giving up and proclaiming it “Nah, I No Wri No Mo” month instead.

Cooincidentally, November is also NaBloPoMo, when bloggers are supposed to update their blog with a new post every day.

You may be asking yourself, why do writers who supposedly love to write need to dedicate an entire month to forcing themselves to write?

    Woman Totally Offended By Trump

A few of my friends from various walks of life have shared a post on Facebook called, “Woman Not Offended by Trump.”

Since I like and respect many of the women who shared it, I decided to give it a read and open myself up to another point of view.

I came away discouraged and saddened that there are women who just “don’t get” how offensive Donald Trump’s behavior and statements are – I’m sure it’s very similar with how frustrated they are that I “don’t get” how they think it’s not a big deal.

In an effort to share how I have formed my opinions about Trump’s behavior, I have done a counter-point take on the “Woman Not Offended by Trump,” post, appropriately named, “Woman Totally Offended by Trump.”

Listen To Your Mother Austin - Why My LTYM Performance Included a Parental Warning

Why My Listen to Your Mother Performance Included a Parental Warning

Immediately after my Listen to Your Mother performance in May, our amazing photographer, Casey Chapman Ross, gave me a little nudge and said, “just wait until you see the shot I got.”

It was this one. And it perfectly captured the essence of my LTYM Performance.

I'm Done Being Embarrassed That I Take An Antidepressant For An Anxiety Disorder - Let's Talk About It - TheDustyParachute.com

I’m Done Being Embarrassed That I Take An Antidepressant For An Anxiety Disorder

Hi. I’m Susanne. And I’m done being embarrassed that I take an antidepressant for an anxiety disorder.

I mean, seriously, I have so many other things that I should be embarrassed about, like that time in the fourth grade when I didn’t have an act for the talent show so I just walked back and forth on the stage, doing random, jerky, Rockettes-style kicks to the J. Geil’s Band song, “Centerfold.”

    That was embarrassing.

How to Organize, Store & Display Your Legos – Part 2

Welcome to Part 2 of “Lord Business Lego Camp” Lego Organization. This post is for those Lego lovers who appreciate the tidiness and order of Lord Business, but also have a bit of a Master Builder rebel side.

If you haven’t read Part 1 – Some (re)Assembly Required yet, you can visit it here to read about how my five year old son spent much of last summer reassembling thirty obliterated Lego sets in our “Lord Business Lego Camp.”

In Part 2, I’ll explain how we solved our Lego organization crisis with a solution that pleased the Lord Business (me) and Master Builders (my son, my daughter and my husband) in our house.

How to Organize Your Legos – Part 1: Some (re)Assembly Required

    Legos.

They’re every parent’s dream when a new set keeps your child occupied for a few blissful hours (or minutes) of silence, but every parent’s nightmare when that “it costs HOW MUCH?!” set soon gets crumbled into 520 anonymous pieces, lost forever in the Lego abyss of all your other destroyed Lego sets.

So, how do you deal with the Lego madness?
